Apeiron Baroque – Shipwrecked

4pm Sunday 21 April 2024
Wesley Uniting Church, National Circuit, Forrest, ACT

Countertenor Tobias Cole will be joined by a small band of strings (and harpsichord!) to present stormy vocal works by Baroque composers Ariosti, Vivaldi, Handel, and Hasse. Fans of music without words will also be treated to unusual instrumental gems by Biber, Uccellini, Cazzati, Vilsmayr, and Bononcini!

Barbie spoke to John Ma and Tobias Cole about Shipwrecked

Apeiron Baroque was launched in 2022 by Early Music specialists, John Ma (Violin/Viola/d’amore) and Marie Searles (fortepiano/harpsichord). After honing their skills on the stages of Europe for nearly two decades, the pair returned to Canberra to reconnect with family and to help inspire the next generation of Early Music specialists.

Taking cues from genres of music such as pub bands, jazz, and folk; Apeiron presents high-quality concerts in a casual atmosphere. Repertoire ranges from the early Baroque (c.1700) through to the early Romantic (c.1850) and performed on period instruments in historically appropriate styles.

Performances are designed to be entertaining, informative, and accessible to all ages and backgrounds; new audience members should not fear the experience of a Baroque concert.
