Dance Week brings the joy and universality of dance to the Canberra region. Its message is that dance is for everyone and that it is an important art form as well as an activity all can enjoy and participate in.
Performances, classes, try sessions and workshops are on offer throughout Dance Week, catering for all ages and ability/experience levels of dancer.
Dance Week officially begins on International Dance Day, Tuesday 29 April from 6.30pm at Gorman Arts Centre with a Welcome to Country by Ngunnawal elder Aunty Serena from Yukkumbruk Dreaming and an opening speech by the Minister for the Arts Michael Petterson MLA. Theen there is the Stellar Company’s performance of Stars in 3D in A Block Theatre at Gorman Arts Centre followed by a special salsa dance experience with Kokoloco Dance Studio.
The extensive program can be downloaded at https://www.ausdanceact.org.au/
Whether it’s classical ballet, tiny tots dance, inclusive dance fitness or folk dance, you will find something to try, mostly free of charge.
