Dance for Wellbeing

Belconnen Arts Centre and Tuggeranong Arts Centre
Classes run concurrently with ACT school terms.

Having had the privilege of sitting in as an observer on a taster session for the Dance for Wellbeing program, I must compliment Philip Piggin and his colleagues and the two arts centres for such excellent provision of dance classes for people with Parkinsons, dementia and at all mobility levels.

The class I watched was conducted seated and yet used all parts of the body as well as stimulating the mind. Participants and their carers and/or family members were all made very welcome in a relaxed and accepting atmosphere,  but were challenged to do whatever they could to move and be creative.

Enjoyment in being with others in a social setting is an important aspect of these classes and the positive effects of dance and music flow through to all involved.
