The Final Hours by Lyon & Featherstone is a response in song to the art of Myuran Sukumaran, who was executed on 29 April 2015 by the Indonesian Government after being found guilty of drug smuggling as part of the ‘Bali 9’.
In 2018 Tuggeranong Arts Centre held a major exhibition of the work of Myuran Sukumaran and on the final day of the exhibition, invited artists and writers to spend time in the gallery and create responses to the experience.
Pete Lyon and Nigel Featherstone created the original song sketches during that time and then worked for a year on refining and finally recording the pieces. The music was mastered by Canberra producer Kimmo Kimmo Vennonen.
The result is a
collection of moving works spanning a range of emotional responses and which
allow the listener to also contemplate the many issues raised in the original
exhibition at Tuggeranong Arts Centre.
