Liangis Theatre, National Portrait Gallery, Saturday 18 August
A cheerful crowd filled the LIangis Theatre at the NPG for the launch of out of silence: Marcel Marceau by Jan Dalman, realised by Andreas Dalman and Elizabeth Cameron Dalman.
The meaning of the word ‘realised’ becomes apparent when you learn that this book was something that Jan Dalman wanted to achieve in his lifetime but which in the end was brought to fruition by his son and wife some years after his death.
Shane Breynard, Director of Canberra Museum and Gallery was guest speaker at the event, exploring the significance of Marceau in the history of theatre and the history of France for his role in the Resistance during WWII. Personal insights were given by Elizabeth Cameron Dalman on Jan Dalman’s photographic practice and the process of working with Andreas on the book. A moving speech about the significance of this book as a connection and homage to his father was presented by Andreas Dalman.
