With founder of TangoOz, Maggie Ferguson on the bandoneon, the ensemble will explore early and traditional works from the birthplace of tango, Buenos Aires, and the father of Nuevo Tango, Astor Piazzolla.
The music is described as: ‘Not the usual Hollywood rose in the teeth style of Tango but the gritty, knife in the boot style.’
The Phoenix Collective Quartet members come from the ranks of national and international orchestras such as Opera Australia Orchestra, Canberra Symphony, Sydney Symphony, BBC Philharmonic, Kammer Philharmonie Köln, Boston Symphony and Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
Phoenix Collective was founded in 2018 by violinist, Dan Russell, as a means of playing high art music with exceptional musicians who share similar views musically, artistically and emotionally. Phoenix Collective received a Canberra Critics’ Circle Award in Music in 2021.
