Review: Escape Artfest

4 to 7 October 2018, Milton and Ulladulla NSW

Wet conditions for the opening night of Artfest did not dampen spirits – in fact everyone revelled in the much-needed rainfall. We were in Milton for three days of the festival and enjoyed the happy atmosphere, broad community uptake and variety of relaxed events.

Thursday night’s Milton gallery walk included many local businesses who were hosting small exhibitions including real estate (photographic competition and display) and legal offices (Hela Donela’s paintings) . We attended the book launch  for  Richo, the Terry Richardson Story in the surf shop and found Don Farrands: The Glass Soldier in Suzie’s Art gallery (above the chocolate shop which we also visited of course).

Noel Hart: The Rewilding (blown glass and painting) was launched at The Wall art projects in Eastside Mall Ulladulla on Friday evening 5 October. This is the gallery of artist/writer Robert Hollingworth and his wife, artist Karen Boulden. Find out more about The Wall art projects at

Having grown like topsy over a number of years, this year’s festival has a new committee and a new more compact format, which probably suits visitors from further afield better. Next year’s festival is already in the planning stages. We recommend the event – it’s fun and a gentle unrushed way of spending some time at a beautiful part of the NSW coast whilst supporting regional arts. Keep up with the festival at
