. The exhibition presents new works in watercolour by Melbourne-based artist Stefan Gevers. It is his fourth at Suki and Hugh. For previous exhibitions Stefan has been inspired by the landscape of the Southern Tablelands with a particular fascination and focus on Lake George.
Known for his technique of scoring the watercolour paper with a blade to create minute tufts of texture, Gevers uses repetitive lines as screens and to create viewpoints.
Stefan says of the work: ‘The vertical lines and whitewash serve as a screen or curtain, spotlighting a scene, a place, a viewpoint, while offering a sense of seclusion. Concurrently, it obscures and reveals the past and future. It’s a contemplation of our role and obligations within the landscape, with trees as the timeless, silent observers.’
