Canberra publisher launches new books in 2022
First event at Book Cow in Kingston, ACT, on Saturday 29 January 2022 at 3pm
Author Samantha Tidy was inspired by the positive community reaction to her book Our Bush Capital (2020), She decided to re-invest her author royalties from this and her other published books and to open her boutique publishing house Storytorch Press to public submissions.
She is interested in books that celebrate community and connection. In 2022 Storytorch will publish and nationally distribute four new children’s titles.
The first of these is The Riddle of Tanglewood Manor by Canberra writer Tracey Hawkins. It’s a middle grade fiction involving time travel and is suitable for readers aged seven and up. Tracey is an award-winning author of 15 books for both adults and children and a passionate ambassador for the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge.
Hawkins was inspired by the courage evident in the young people around her, as the COVID crisis descended.
Also to be released on 1 February is Ocean Warriors: The Rise of Robo-Shark by celebrated author Candice Lemon-Scott. This is a book with strong environmental themes and a focus on the importance of apex predators in the ocean ecosystem.
Two more picture books will be released in August, Great and Small by Alison McLennan and Connah Brecon (celebrating diversity and an all-abilities approach to inclusion) and Naturopolis by Deborah Frenkel and Ingrid Bartkowiak (encouraging young people to find nature right under their feet in the city).
