The Q comes alive with The Sound of Music

Presented by Queanbeyan Players
The Q, Queanbeyan
11-21 March 2021, with streamed filmed performance on 20 March

This evergreen musical in its Broadway iteration has been postponed twice due to COVID, but now comes to The Q with all physical tickets already sold.

With music well known and loved by most musical theatre goers, this production will be a welcome start to Queanbeyan Players’ performance year. The Q theatre provides an excellent live venue with great sightlines and audibility around the auditorium.

The show has a strong cast of leads – Lydia Milosavljevic as Maria, Michael Jordan as Captain von Trapp, Veronica Thwaites-Brown as Elsa, Terry Johnson as Max and Louise Gaspari as Mother Abbess. It also boasts a troupe of talented young local performers as the von Trapp children.

Director Anthony Swadling, who has a solid history on stage with QP, sees the leading theme of the story as the power of love to overcome adversity and to triumph in the face of challenge and evil.

Set against the dark background of the rise of Nazism, the story nevertheless focusses on the lightness of life – the capacity of music to raise the spirit, the importance of family and friendship and the need for courage in all we do.

We have a longstanding personal connection to Queanbeyan Players, so we are truly delighted to see this production come to fruition, overcoming the challenges of COVID restrictions, closures and life in general as stoutly as the von Trapps and Maria do so in the story on stage.

The show is a fitting tribute to performer and music teacher Michael Politi, who was musical director of the production before his untimely death last year.
