Youth Dance Festival provides the opportunity for young people to express their ideas and opinions and to have their voices heard through dance.

The festival allows young people to reflect upon and make work about their ever-changing world including lockdowns, travel bans and restrictions.

Youth Dance Fest has been around since 1985 and now boasts a second generation of participants.

Ausdance ACT ensures that every school has the tools and support needed to bring to life the diverse work that makes up Youth Dance Festival. The creative process involves professional dance artists visiting participating schools to provide support and guidance to students in the development of their own work.

The program encourages a student led approach to dance making, choreography. This year’s participants are:

  • Monday 5 September: Burgmann Anglican School, Canberra Girls Grammar School, Caroline Chisholm School, Erindale College, Gungahlin College, Lake Tuggeranong College, Melba Copland Secondary School, Merici College, Radford College, St Francis Xavier College and UC SSC Lake Ginninderra College.
  • Tuesday 6 September: Amaroo School, Calwell High School, Canberra Grammar School, Gold Creek High School, Harrison School, Mount Stromlo High School, St Clare’s College, St Mary Mackillop College and Trinity Catholic College.
