Val Johnson – Colours of Cornwall

Strathnairn Homestead Galleries until 19 August
Artist floor talk Saturday 11 August at 2pm

This beautiful collection of paintings, ink and wash drawings and mosaics is the result of two visits to Cornwall by the artist in 2010 and 2016. The work evokes the Cornish coast and its fishing villages wonderfully well – and for me it was a journey to childhood nostalgia. I do recommend that you take the short trip to Strathnairn, now decreasingly rural in its aspect, to see this latest body of work by one of Canberra’s best loved artists.

Val is a Fellow of the Royal Art Society of N.S.W, a member of Art in Miniature Canberra, Strathnairn Arts Centre, the Artists Society of Canberra, Queanbeyan Art Society and Urban Sketchers Canberra.

Her career began in the sixties studying Commercial Art at East Sydney Technical College whilst employed as an artist at David Jones Sydney. In the 80s Val attended Macquarie Art School Bathurst, furthering studies in life drawing, still life and portrait painting. She also studied printmaking at Mitchell College Bathurst. Val has attended workshops at The Julian Ashton Art School and the Royal Art Society as well as Open Art Courses at the National Art School, and workshops with many well-known artists.
