An exploration of Canberra in oils and mosaics
Strathnairn Homestead, 90 Stockdill Drive Holt ACT
27 July – 21 August 2022
Open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm
This exhibition is based on Val’s discovery of some of the beautiful natural places we have in the Canberra region – rivers, lakes, suburbia and parks. She has spent the past two years during Covid composing the paintings and mosaics for this exhibition.
The works are oils and mosaics. She describes her mosaic style as freestyle and she happily employs a variety of materials – old plates, tiles, shells and stones can be found mixed with conventional mosaic materials. Both mediums demonstrate her command of shape and colour in portraying deceptively simple scenes, which entice the viewer into their vastness and solidity.
Val Johnson is a Fellow of the Royal Art Society of NSW, a member of Art in Miniature Canberra, and Queanbeyan Art Society. She exhibits widely and has won numerous awards for her work.
