Vivienne Rogis – The Whole Cake

Ten years after its debut, Vivienne reprises and remakes The Whole Cake a changed body and an expanded creative landscape.

This renewed version deepens the show’s original premise. Rogis has spent months gathering stories, crafting dance vignettes, and asking questions that unpack the complexity of women’s lives — the difficulties and joys of managing diverse roles within family, work, community, and friendship groups, while maintaining a sense of individuality.

In that decade, everything has shifted for the artist and Rogis’ body, now navigating an autoimmune condition, carries a different physical truth.

Approaching the remount, she quickly realised this was not a simple revival. Could she perform the same moves? Did she still resonate with the same cakes of life? Could she embody her past without acknowledging her present?

The creative process answered clearly: this work needed to honour the now.

These reflections have shaped six new ‘cakes of life’, created in collaboration with local baker Sascha from Sweet Bones Café in Scullin to express sharpness, sweetness, heaviness, nourishment, celebration, and the unexpected flavours that emerge over time.

Audiences will be served all six slices at this intimate dance-theatre performance.
