Jenny Blake’s paintings of the lake and Lee-Anne Cooper’s ceramics form an elegant partnership, each body of work deeply connected to the landscape and pulsing with the passion of the artists.
Jenny Blake has presented the beauty of this magnificent lake in different weathers and times of day. Her rich blues and turquoises of the wet contrast with the yellows and duns of times of drought, when the water has receded creating a vast plain where the lake once was. There are night and evening views, full daylight and dusks.
The artist has worked both at a grand scale for a few paintings and then in 30x30cm squares for collections of similar images, showing in all pieces her command of her medium and her deep affinity with place. This is no fleeting relationship but one of long and frequent observation and absorption.
Lee-Anne Cooper’s work is predominantly in natural clay, with a neutral palette and textured or finely worked surfaces. Its very whiteness provides a bold statement and contrast to the wall work. Shape is very important in these pieces which tempt viewers to touch and run their fingers across the surface just to experience their nature. (Best not do this until it’s yours, tempting though it is!).
The marriage of these bodies of work is inspired. All work is for sale and has already proved popular with gallery visitors.
